The Marathon of Hope Lives On

Terry Fox

The legacy of a young BC man courageously battling not just leg bone cancer, but ignorance, prejudice and inclement weather as well on an iconic journey across Canada that began on April 12, 1980, has endured for more than 30 years and inspired many generations of Canadians to take up his torch and continue the dream. His altruism and vision have helped launched similar annual fund-raising marathons in other parts of the globe–including UAE, India, Qatar, Cuba, Argentina, Bahrain and Singapore. Over $550 million to date has been raised for the Terry Fox Foundation worldwide. The Annual Terry Fox Run in Canada is usually hosted on the second Sunday after Labour Day (September 15 this year). Cancer has touched many lives–including mine–and resonated with so many individuals, so get into shape and lace up for a good cause! Keep the dream alive, one step at a time.
