Had a stressful day? Laughter is the best medicine, and you need to get your daily dose of endorphins somehow. Unlike lions, who can sleep 22 hours a day, humans can’t use this method of avoiding reality for long. Chocolate only goes so far, too. If listening to soothing sounds isn’t your ball of wax or cup of tea, here are some “oldies but goodies” on the Internet that you can find to unwind.
Bad Lip Reading
I used to think my “ability” to mishear was a gift that could only get “better” with age (it’s so true! The things I mishear these days are hilarious). Yes, it has been four months old since Bad Lip Reading hit the Youtube.com videowaves, but I don’t think this will ever grow old. Anything — from politics (most recently, the 2013 U.S. presidential campaigns), to movies (Twilight, The Hunger Games, The Walking Dead), and sports (NFL) — is fair game. Now if only infomercials could be spoofed the same way.
Family Feud Blooper Answers
Two-time Family Feud host Richard Dawson takes 99% of the answers he gets in stride or tosses off a remark in his typically deadpan Brit style to acknowledge their degree of ludicrousness — without losing his composure (famous exception: September). Other game show blooper compilations showcase LOL moments from the Newlywed Game, Hollywood Squares, $25K/$100K Pyramid, Wheel of Fortune, the Match Game, the U.K. and Aussie versions of Family Feud, and more.
Jay Leno’s Headlines
If you are a stressed night owl looking for a chuckle, check out watch Jay Leno’s Headlines (Monday nights on NBC or visit the link here), when the voice of the Crimson Chin airs and comments on the various media bloopers made by third parties. The translated-into-English bits are genuine, but I wonder if some of the other goofs like the newspaper headlines have been deliberately made to get the proverbial fifteen seconds of fame for their (unnamed) authors.
A Sleeping Puppy Dreams and Other Anthropomorphic Moments
Humans aren’t the only creatures who dream (but! we’re the only ones with “experts” who can tell us what we’re dreaming about, and why. Though I’ve never bought into the theory that flying in one’s dreams has Freudian implications). You’ll say a big awww after seeing a minute and a half of this adorable puppy in REM sleep. For more awww-worthy moments, check out these other nippers trying to avoid napping (and all failing — some quite spectacularly). If you love felines, check out this 20-minute vid.
The Onion: America’s Finest News Source
The Onion website has mastered the art of tongue-in-cheek with its 24/7 supply of articles satirizing real and fictionalized political, sports, business, science/tech and local events ever so seriously. The newspaper-style format of reporting their stories, smartly Photoshopped stills (the Week in Pictures/Sports), embedded videos and smattering of “useful tips” are nice touches, too. Underlying those well-orchestrated shenanigans is the not-to-be-taken-seriously-at-all attitude. Or is it?
