A two-and-a-half hour scenic drive from Vancouver, Hells Gate–named by explorer Simon Fraser for the narrow, twisting passage that forces the waters of the Fraser River to pass through–is a former Gold Rush Trail site and a modern day tourist attraction. Take the Hells Gate Airtram down to the suspension bridge and observation decks, try your luck at panning for gold, satisfy your sweet tooth with the Fudge Factory, and listen to the fisheries history of Hells Gate. Sockeye and pink salmon fishing and jetboat tours are available.
Of all the times I’ve driven by, I have still never been!
