Why do we love the fictional misfits we see on TV? Dr. Sheldon Cooper of The Big Bang Theory. Dr. Greg House on House. The entire (“illegal alien”) clan of Solomons on Third Rock from the Sun, although it’s really just Dick, Harry and Sally who own the title, and in that order–the wiser Tommy, is the killjoy, the “youngest”, and along for the ride (note: I’ve already dealt with the 3rd Rock contingent in an older post entitled Not all TV is a Wasteland). And the lovable, loopy Mr. Bean of (in my humble opinion, the all-too-short) Mr. Bean TV series fame and more recently, of the silver screen. Continue reading
