Eclectus Parrots

This gallery contains 7 images. Named Ruby and Kiwi for their colours (as well as their genders), these resident Eclectus Parrots are an exception to the avian rule that males are much brighter coloured than their female counterparts. In fact, if you didn’t already know about this species of parrot, you might think that they are of two separate species.

The male was definitely the louder one … I don’t think I heard a peep out of his lady for the entire duration of our visit to The Bloedel Conservatory. The latter was fussing with her feathers (like most women, who spend hours getting ready 🙂 ) and trying to look good for the camera — when she didn’t feel like playing coy with it.
