Have you ever tossed a coin or two into a fountain and made a wish? Did it come true?

It used to be common practice to toss your change into a fountain. Pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters found their way into many a blue tiled bottom of a fountain in Metro Vancouver shopping malls like Oakridge and Metrotown. Sometimes there would also be American coins in the mix.

I Prefer “Merlin’s Hat”

Well, that’s what I call theĀ grape hyacinth, on account of the blue colour, white asterisks, and resemblance to a sorcerer’s cap. These buds are also known as baby’s breath, and bluebell. Found growing in the gravel outside of our garden patch. One hardy, prolific, and low-maintenance flower!

Daphne Bholua: Heaven Scent

What you can’t tell from looking at this photo is that the hardy Daphne Bholua or Paper Daphne–also known by the equally exotic name of ‘the Nepalese Paper Plant’–is a fragrant flowering bush that grows in our garden with a scent that has been described as cinnamon-lemon. The white inner petals/pink outer petals are easy on the eyes, too.
