This gallery contains 2 photos. On the tail end of our tour of the VanDusen Botanical Garden, we encountered a smelly but beautiful field of bulbous yellow flowers that remind me of pineapples. Fritillaria imperialis–Kaiser’s Crown or Crown Imperial as they are better known–make a definite, auditory and visual statement.
Here’s an upside-down view of these flowers. The odour (which we thought came from nearby skunk cabbage) is meant to ward off rodents like mice and moles.
