Look, Way Up in the Sky!

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No wait, it really is a bird. This juvenile Bald Eagle was circling but a mere 30 feet above our heads at Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary on a very sunny Good Friday 2014. Fortunately, said bird of prey was doing several circles, so the “extreme closeup” (so to speak, for us, anyway) opportunity presented itself, eventually.

  1. Ooh. Handsome. We had a juvenile that liked swinging by when we lived in a farm-by-a-creek in the midwest. I think juvenile’s kind of an understatement. The wingspan is huuuuuuge.

    • thank you 🙂

mmm, the fishing must be good by the creek 🙂

and speaking of long wingspans, it’s actually the wandering albatross who has the longest wingspan of any bird … try up to 11 and a half feet. now that’s a bird who must cast quite a shadow when it lands!
