Rodin’s Fly (aka Ruby Tuesday)

What must this striking insect be thinking? This ruby-eyed fly seems to be striking a contemplative pose on the edge of a sunflower leaf. Photographed in the backyard in the evening, during the third week of June. After several (shaky) attempts to shoot it from above, I got two shots this way before Ruby flew off.
