This gallery contains 2 photos. First female Rufous Hummingbird that I’ve photographed at close range in the backyard. Not the clearest shots because of the fading daylight, even with the shutter speed of 1/1600, ISO of 6400, and adjusted exposure/flash compensation.
Her return/presence (re)started a fight with the (resident) female Anna’s Hummingbird, who had been popping in and out all day (a ladies’ only gym this is not). Even the female hummingbirds are extremely territorial … not just the males. It’s good to know that our garden has a staunch bee-sized defender. Photographed on the evening of July 12.
Beautiful.

I got lucky 😀 … I have to sift through a hundred shots or more to get one that’s sharp enough!
