It’s Good for You *and* Bad for You

This gallery contains 2 photos. Can you guess what plant this is? My first thought was rambutan (or a very hairy lychee), but even those spikes are a bit too long and fierce looking to be either. Photographed at the Secret Garden of Boundary Bay on August 8.

Castor Oil Plant 2

It’s a castor oil plant! From which castor beans are grown, castor oil is made (and ricin, the poison, is extracted from its seeds). I was the unfortunate victim of many a castor oil and fish oil daily supplement growing up. It’s hard to believe that such an exotic looking plant could taste so blah, eh? Photographed at the same garden on September 7.
