Wildlife Up Close: Scimitar-Horned Oryx

The scimitar-horned oryx is an antelope of the Saharan desert. Once a common sight in Northern Africa, climate change and hunting have severely curtailed its numbers so that it is extinct in the wild. Less than 5,000 are estimated to exist worldwide at zoos and in private collections. This is one of 8-10 photographed on September 14 at the Greater Vancouver Zoo.

Your comments are like chocolate for my soul ... I can never get enough of them! Bonus brownie points for witty comments! I love a good turn of phrase. :)
