This gallery contains 2 photos. Could this creature have been the inspiration for the comic book superhero Hellboy? This browsing ankole bull was photographed on September 14 at the Greater Vancouver Zoo. His horns were so long that I couldn’t get both of them in this photo!

This photo of another ankole bull was taken a little bit later in the day, in a shadier spot of the enclosure. Why the long horns? Apparently they’re used to keep cool and circulate the blood.
