Wildlife Up Close: Marsh Wren

This gallery contains 3 photos. Another first time encounter for me was with this tiny Marsh Wren. This little guy was charming me with an enchanting and complex aria on one of the walking trails around the refuge.

Despite getting close to him, clear shots were a bit tricky, as he sang with both voice and body, and I took several shots with a tripod-free long lens and no place to brace myself. This headon shot makes him look like what I’d call “an egg with two legs.”

We don’t usually see Marsh Wrens, as Vancouver represents the northernmost tip of their range. Photographed on December 14 at the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary.
