This Black-Tailed Deer was one of two who had crossed one of the trails at the Maplewood Conservation Area in the late morning of May 3, to nibble the grass on the other side (which apparently is greener!) Before she started on her brunch, however, she looked back for a few moments at the photographer. She showed no fear at the sight of me … being quite habituated to the sight of humans wandering through her realm.
To me, this deer, the forest, and our unexpected encounter–far from cars, smartphones, skyscrapers, and the other trappings of human civilization–collectively symbolize the unadorned wonder, resilience, and fragility of nature. None of which I should ever take for granted. See more examples of Symbol here.

thank you, Deborah! it’s made even more special because I’ve never encountered a deer in the wild before. 🙂

🙂 When ever I encounter them on the trail it’s like Zen. They bring me peace, and make me smile. I saw a Doe yesterday morning while hiking but she stayed in the thicket, so I didn’t get a clear image of her. Just half her face. We looked at each other for a minute. It was lovely.
I hope this was just the first of many lovely sightings of Deer in the wild for you!

She is very beautiful that deer, you got lucky because my home,
they are too timid and you can hardly approach them as too driven (hunting with hounds).
It’s true nature, we quickly forget the drawbacks of modern living.
Thank you very much for this wonderful picture.
I wish you a good Sunday.
