One of the GVZ handlers was kind enough to bring this beautiful blue and gold macaw closer to my camera for a few closeups (the greenwing macaw under the other umbrella got a bit jealous and started cawm-plaining at the top of its voice). Photographed at the Greater Vancouver Zoo on September 14.
Art, the resident Blue and Gold Macaw of Bloedel Conservatory, was absent from his perch when we visited earlier this year. He’s back now, and we’re happy to see him. He’s happy to see his perch. It’s the small things in life that mean the most — right, Art?
You’re still a pretty bird, Art. Even if we can’t see your eyes and black beak. He certainly doesn’t need to keep warm in this tropical paradise! But the abundance of attention, wonder, and digital cameras may be a bit too much for him.
