Vegetables by Winter Moonlight

I’ve heard of iceberg lettuce, but iceberg broccoli leaves? (taken a few minutes ago — the fallen snow has already melted in places).

The (Appropriately) Olympic-Themed Golden-Crowned Sparrow Arrives

This gallery contains 6 photos. Light snow early this morning turned into rain shortly, but couldn’t mask the presence of our newest backyard visitor, a Golden-Crowned Sparrow. The triangle of gold bordered by black stripes above the eyes is the easiest way that I can tell this bird is not a Song Sparrow. There may be a pair of them; the females are quite similarly coloured.
