Normally, I’d prefer not to show photos with cages, but it’s less distracting in the case of these subjects because of my distance from both them and the bars. This gorgeous pair of Golden Eagles is being rehabilitated at the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (O.W.L.) for eventual release back into the wild. I have yet to meet a Golden Eagle in the wild — and they are vastly outnumbered by Bald Eagles.
I wonder if I have seen these soaring high in the skies and mistaken them for Bald Eagles?

looking at them, it’s hard to believe they were injured, period, but they are well taken care of at O.W.L. 🙂
it’s possible that they were either nestlings found in a nest for which the parents could not be located, or suffered some degree of wing damage from flying into manmade objects (neither have brain injuries that would preclude eventual release back into the wild).

Such majestic birds…and such a beautiful photo of them! I’ve never seen them up close, but we do see them fairly often out and about. Some have circled over our property before!

thank you, Teresa! can’t say I’ve had the privilege, but what a fabulous experience! met my first Golden Eagle last summer at a local annual raptor festival, and a hush fell over the crowd. everyone knew we weren’t seeing a bald eagle! 🙂

Beautiful! We’ve been seeing a few more Golden Eagles in Central Valley, and the South Bay. It’s exciting to see them returning to the area.

Gorgeous photo – their feathers are such a rich brown and gold color. It is obvious that they’ve been given a healthy start on life.
