An immature White-Crowned Sparrow (with brown facial markings instead of the black ones found on adults) roosts on a low tree as we exit Boundary Bay Regional Park. This pretty bird has been an extreme rarity in my backyard this fall–showing up only twice so far, and singly. Photographed on Christmas Eve.
great picture the blue of the sky is fantastic and so we can see all details of the white crown sparrow

What a cutie. They’ve been scarce in the Midwest too. None in my yard, and I didn’t see any during the Christmas Bird Count and I was out for 6 hours.
