This gallery contains 2 photos. This is an angelic misnomer; the beautiful but poisonous Angel’s Trumpet aka Datura has unusually long, drooping flowers that are “customized” for the swordbill, a species of hummingbird whose bill is four inches long — and longer than its body!
These two cultivars were photographed in the Stanley Park Rock Garden in the early evening of July 6. No swordbill hummingbird was seen drinking the nectar from either, though — it’s a Brazilian native, and would be quite far from home to feast.
Oh yes, Datura will drop you like a stone.

rather interestingly, there is also a species known as Devil’s trumpet … and these flowers point upwards!
